Things to do in 2017 across the UK

UK EVENTS 2017  – this post will evolve and change as the year progresses. Its stuff that caught my eye and I quite fancy doing. I hope you agree, and it helps inspire your staycation. I would love your suggestions for the list.. it is by no means definitive.

Star Wars Identities

When : Runs until Sep 3, 2017

Discover your dark side, whether you are a rebel, a Wookie, a droid or a Jedi, at the Star Wars Identities exhibition featuring 200 original costumes, props, models and concept artwork.

Where : The 02 London

Prices : £10-20 per person, under 5s go free (check website)

Urban Festival at the Southbank Centre

When :  April 1- 17, 2017

Perfect for kids and teens… London’s Southbank Centre is embracing it’s brutalist architecture and resident skateboarders and graffiti artists with this urban festival. Street dance workshops and breakdance battles are promised.

Hadrian’s Cavalry

When : 8 April – 10 September 2017

Hadrian’s Cavalry is a 6 month long exhibition that celebrates the Roman occupation of Britain 2,000 years ago.

Plymouth Pirate Weekend

When: May 13-14 2017, 10am -4pm

Hullo shipmates….there be a pirate meeting at Plymouth’s historic Barbican district for buccaneers, Jack Sparrow look-a-likes and swashbucklers. Underpants and eye patches optional. Arrrrghhh !

Where : The Barbican, Quay Square & Sutton Harbour, Plymouth PL1 2LR.

Roman reenactment

When : 1-2 July 2017  

Thirty Roman cavalrymen perform a training exercise as part of the Hadrian Wall 2000 anniversary celebrations.

Where : Bitts Park, Carlise.

75th anniversary of Enid Blyton’s The Famous Five     

When : 29 July – 31 August

Have fantastic adventures at four RHS gardens this summer to celebrate 75 years of Enid Blyton’s Famous Five. Explore themed adventure trails and garden displays, craft workshops and storytelling. Plus a picnic party at all four gardens on August 11, to celebrate Enid Blyton’s birthday… you bring the collie and I’ll bring the ginger beer.

Rostrevor’s Fiddler’s Green Music Festival

When : 23 July – 30 July 2017  

This is shameless plug for a festival in my home village, on the shores of Carlingford Lough. Free events in the square, plus lots of live music in the village’s seven pubs and great craic. There’s plenty for kids too… place a bet on a rubber duck in the annual Duck Derby or skim stones on the lough… plus Rostrevor is now a celebrated mountain biking centre.
